Mercedes AMG GLC Coupe-SUV Body Variants: Photos, Specs, and Performance

A few weeks after the sharp Mercedes AMG GLC 43 and 63 S E Performance, their coupe-SUV body variants are coming to the world. The automaker showed them off in photos and a pile of technical data.

Since the cars are the same on the outside except for the flowing rear, which stands out best in the photos, let’s go straight to the technology. The weaker version of the AMG GLC 43 4Matic Coupé will offer an in-line two-liter four-cylinder M139l connected to a starter-generator with a total output of 421 horsepower and a torque of 500 Nm. It is enough to accelerate to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds, the top speed is limited to 250 km/h, and consumption should be 9.8-10.2 l/100 km.

This version has a mild hybrid system with a voltage of 48 V, which, in addition to the 14k starter-generator, also includes an electric motor placed between the turbine and compressor parts of the turbocharger. Its task is clear – to accelerate the spinning of the turbo and thus reduce its delay. According to the press release, this is a world-unique installation of such a system, no other engine has it.

A smaller Mercedes G-Class is on the way

Of course, with the exception of the AMG GLC 63 S E Performance Coupé version. However, it has a small electric motor in the turbo powered by 400 volts from a large traction battery. It is a plug-in hybrid whose 204 hp electric motor works on the rear axle. It transmits its power through a two-speed gearbox.

The combustion engine is the same four-cylinder, only with a larger turbocharger, producing 476 hp and 525 Nm of torque, making it the most powerful four-cylinder in the world. Together, the system gives 680 horsepower and 1020 Nm, thanks to which the car accelerates to a hundred in 3.5 seconds.

The top speed is limited to 275 km/h and consumption should be 7.5 l/100 km + 12.7 kWh/100 km. The battery has a capacity of 6.1 kWh, but electric driving is not a priority – the car can travel only 12 km without starting the internal combustion engine.

It is not yet known at what prices the cars will go on sale and when this will happen.
