“Meranti Islands Regent and Two Others Detained in Alleged Bribery Case by KPK in Jakarta”

KPK detained Meranti Islands Regent Muhammad Adil. Adil was detained in connection with the alleged bribery case for the procurement of Umrah services, project fees from the Meranti regional work unit (SKPD), and bribery for the auditor of the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) representing Riau.

detikcom’s monitoring, at the KPK building, Kuningan, South Jakarta, Friday (7/4/2023) at 23.06 WIB, M Adil was seen coming down from the KPK investigator’s examination room. He appears to be wearing an orange prison vest.

Not only Adil, two other people were also detained by the KPK. They were seen wearing orange KPK prisoner vests with their hands handcuffed.

Adil and 2 other people were herded into the press conference room. The KPK will soon announce the status of the suspect and make a detention for the purposes of investigation.

As for this case, M Adil was caught in a hand-catching operation (OTT), on Thursday (6/4) evening. Out of a total of 25 people who were arrested, only 8 people who were allegedly involved will be questioned at the KPK building.

KPK chairman Firli Bahuri said the KPK was investigating Meranti Islands Regent Muhammad Adil regarding the bribery case for the procurement of Umrah services. Firli said that M Adil had received a discount on supply money (UP) and compensation for supply money (GUP) since 2021.

“Regents also receive a discount on supply money and compensation for supply money as well as other receipts from 2021 to 2023, which is also quite large,” said KPK chairman Firli Bahuri in a statement, Friday (7/4).

Firli said, from the results of the interim investigation, the allegations of corruption were dominated by bribes and project fees from the head of the Meranti Regency SKPD (regional work unit). In this case, the KPK secured evidence worth billions of rupiah.

“The evidence confiscated amounted to billions of rupiah,” he said.
