Meralco has shared tips on how consumers can save on electricity costs over the Holy Week and Day of Valor holidays, as well as promoting electrical safety and energy efficiency. The company has promised its 7.6 million customers continued and stable electricity throughout the holidays, with its personnel ready to attend to any customer concerns 24/7. Meralco has advised consumers to turn off appliances when leaving for the long weekend, except for refrigerators which should be kept running as they are 12% more cost-efficient. Safety tips include avoiding “octopus connections” or plugging in extension cords into a single power outlet, organizing electrical wires and cords, and avoiding placing electrical cords under rugs or carpets. Meralco also suggests keeping the air conditioning unit running when leaving the house for only an hour, and using its appliance calculator to help manage power consumption.
