MeowSquad NYC celebrates cat adoption event in Queens mall – Telemundo New York (47)

MeowSquad NYCa nonprofit organization dedicated to rescuing cats for adoption, will host a event for adoption this Saturday, May 14 from noon to 4 pm at Modern Pet in the Bay Terrace Mall, located at 212-45 26th Ave, Queens, NY, 11360.

Established in 2019, MeowSquad NYC aims to reduce the city’s feral cat population through the use of trap, neuter and adopt techniques.

The organization’s volunteers track down entire colonies of cats that are too fearful to be suitable for adoption. Once captured, the cats are sterilized and vaccinated and returned to their territory of origin. This stops reproduction and many of the nuisance behaviors associated with unneutered cats, such as meowing, fighting, and marking territory. The management of the colony is also taken into account to guarantee the welfare of the cats and their peaceful coexistence with the rest of the community, as well as preventing overpopulation in the city.

This will be the organization’s third adoption event in 2022 and Modern Pet’s first since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

The organization’s volunteers also act as foster parents for the cats they rescue, hoping to deliver them to loving homes.

MeowSquad NYC hopes to raise enough funds to purchase spaces for the cats up for adoption. This would also provide more space for cats to stay in safe environments.
