The trial against the 36-year-old has begun in Verden. Because of paranoid schizophrenia, he is considered not guilty.

The accused is said to have killed a 67-year-old in a delusion and must therefore answer before the Verden regional court. The 36-year-old is not guilty, said the public prosecutor. He killed a person without being a murderer. The accused remained silent at the start of the trial.

The public prosecutor’s office accuses the man of attacking the other person on the night of April 29th in Leese in the Nienburg an der Weser district. After eating together in a pizzeria, the two are said to have spent the evening in the 67-year-old’s living room.

Placed in a psychiatric ward

The accused felt threatened, among other things, by the running television and, in his madness, beat the other man. He sat on his chest, hit his head and face several times with his fists and squeezed his neck.

According to prosecutors, the victim suffered multiple broken bones and inhaled blood. The man died from his injuries. The investigators arrested the suspected attacker and took him to a psychiatric hospital. The 36-year-old suffers from paranoid schizophrenia and stopped taking his medication before the crime because of the side effects.

There is no risk of a prison sentence

The presiding judge explained to the German that it was a security procedure. “It’s not a question of whether you’ll go to prison.” If the court decides that the man is dangerous, he will instead face a longer stay in a psychiatric hospital.
