Her daughter is still very shocked by the accident, says mother Chérie. “The bruises and bruises will go away, but the mental consequences will linger for a while.”
Crack in her confidence
That mental blow is extra big because of her daughter’s intellectual disability, says the mother. To protect her, Chérie refuses to mention her name. “She just turned 18 and was preparing to do more things on her own. She was about to start assisted living.”
The accident caused a major crack in her self-confidence, says mother Chérie. “She received a big push back. That’s why I hope the cyclists who have done this will report. For my daughter to process it better. But also because that’s what you should do if you did something like that. Then you say sorry.”

A lot of pain
The accident happened on Saturday on the Klapwijkseweg in Berkel en Rodenrijs. “My daughter immediately called my husband after the fall. I was at work myself. She told him that she was lying on the floor somewhere and was in a lot of pain.”
Fortunately, her daughter filmed the place where she lay with her phone. “As a result, my husband was able to find out the location. When he arrived at her, all kinds of bystanders had already taken care of her. That is also the beautiful thing about our society.”

Clap is big
“We were in the hospital for three and a half hours. She was hit from behind and fell on her back and head. She has all kinds of abrasions. But the mental blow is even greater. Last weekend we went for a bike ride, but the fear is there good at it. Moreover, my daughter only has a small income. Her deductible with the insurance is now also there.”
The mother hopes for a good outcome. “I hope the cyclists report. So that my daughter can put this behind her.”
