The specialized virus clinics within the hospitals of the General Secretariat for Mental Health and Addiction Treatment at the Ministry of Health and Population continue, for the second month in a row, to provide testing, diagnosis and treatment services for hepatitis (B and C) and HIV (AIDS), for all addiction patients who frequent hospitals in the Secretariat, whether from Outpatient or reserved patients in inpatient departments.

Dr. Mann Abdel Maqsoud, Secretary General of Mental Health and Addiction Treatment Hospitals, said that over the past month, clinics have been operating in 9 governorates in each of the hospitals in Khanka, Banha in Qalyubia, Al-Azzazi in Sharqia, Shebin El-Kom in Menoufia, Damira in Dakahlia, Helwan, Tanta, Heliopolis. , Sohag, Maamoura, and Aswan. Nearly 400 addiction patients have been examined and more than 200 positive cases of viruses spread by injection have been diagnosed, of whom 151 are positive for C virus.

She added, in a statement today, that in coordination with the National AIDS Program and the National Hepatitis Committee, confirmatory analyzes and treatment are conducted through virus clinics inside the secretariat’s hospitals in complete confidentiality and completely free of charge.

She noted that this step is the first of its kind, as the principle of providing all services to the category of addiction patients is achieved under one roof, which represents a wonderful model for fruitful cooperation and coordination between the various sectors of the Ministry, with the aim of providing an integrated service for addiction patients.

Abdel-Maqsoud added that this step comes in accordance with the directives of the Minister of Health and Population, Dr. Hala Zayed, and under the supervision of Assistant Minister of Health, Dr. Mohamed Hassani, and in coordination with the National Committee for Hepatitis and the National AIDS Program headed by Dr. Heba Al-Sayed.
