Total Vaccine Recipients Until Monday Reached 10.2 Million People

JAKARTA – Several women said their menstruation felt heavier after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine. It says menstruation occurs faster and returns during menopause. These potential side effects of the COVID-19 vaccine did not appear to have been seen during clinical trials in thousands of people. But once the vaccine has been given to millions of people around the world, more side effects arise.

In February 2021, Dr. Kate Vlancy, a professor of the anthropology department at the University of Illinois, said that a woman experienced heavy menstruation after the COVID-19 vaccine. So, Dr Kate also found out the relationship for a week using a dose of Moderna vaccine. Dr Kate said her period occurred earlier than expected.

“I got the first COVID-19 vaccine from Pfizer on April 29, 2020 and now I am having menstruation again after 28 months of menopause,” explained a woman quoted from the page of The Sun. Another woman also had menstruation for 3 weeks, which was considered abnormal. Meanwhile, another woman had menstruation again after a long period of stopping and it was lighter.

Dr Heather Bartos, a Texas gynecologist, said women who use IUDs are more likely to experience unusual bleeding when they catch a cold or infection. The side effects of the COVID-19 vaccine, such as fever, can also affect the menstrual cycle. However, this effect is certainly different depending on the content in the COVID-19 vaccine itself.

The normal side effects of the COVID-19 vaccine include fatigue, pain at the injection site and muscle aches. Women under the age of 40 are more likely to experience side effects. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said at least 32 women experienced changes in their menstrual periods.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health in Israel also said it had received several reports of cases of women experiencing abnormal bleeding from the vagina or irregular bleeding. However, until now there has been no evidence to suggest a relationship between women’s menstrual cycles changing due to the COVID-19 vaccine. This condition can be influenced by various causes.

Dr Bartos mentions that these menstrual cycle changes may also be caused by stress. This is because the pandemic of the COVID-19 virus that has not yet ended has triggered stress from various things, from finances, work, childcare and others. “I have confirmed that changes in menstrual periods once or twice are not too worrying. If the changes occur 3 to 5 times or more, it needs to be checked,” he explained. (E-4)
