Tennis player Jakub Menšík was eliminated at the tournament in Shanghai in the quarter-finals by former world number one Novak Djokovic. He lost to the fourth-seeded Serb in his Masters top-eight debut 7:6, 1:6, 4:6 and failed to follow up with Tomáš Macháč, who celebrated Thursday’s breakthrough after winning over Carlos Alcaraz.
19-year-old Menšík went into the first match against his main role model without fear and kept up with him without any problems. In the seventh game, he managed to stop the first two break points, but in the ninth game, he could no longer hold serve. However, at 5:4, he did not allow his eighteen-year-old opponent to add to the set, he immediately returned the break and led the match to a tie break. There, he rallied from 0:3 to convert, equalized and then won three points in a row in the ratio of 7:4.
In the second set, however, Menšík was unable to continue his performance. He played only six winning balls, more jokes and the winner of 24 Grand Slam awards won the scores in half an hour. In the third set, the game became more equal again, and the only successful break of Djokovic in the fifth game was finally decided. The four-time champion of the Shanghai tournament then took control of the lead and closed the duel after two hours and 21 minutes with a clean sheet.
