The SaludHable program, from the Public Health Department of the City Council, organizes a day to expand information about a moment of special importance in the lives of women: menopause.
At the meeting, on Wednesday, April 17, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., topics such as hot flashes, sexuality, diet and exercise, and hormone replacement therapy will be discussed.
“Menopause is a natural stage in a woman’s life, marked by the definitive cessation of menstruation and the decrease in ovarian function, and usually occurs between 45 and 55 years, with the average age for Spanish women being 51. years”, they remember from the aforementioned council. Doctors José Manuel Menéndez Fuster and Antonio Zafra Villaverde, both from the Gynecology and Obstetrics Service of the HM Rivas Hospital, participate in the event.
“Menopause can influence bone health with the risk of osteoporosis and fractures, cardiovascular health, changes in cholesterol levels and blood pressure, and even weight gain. In addition, the hormonal changes that occur at this stage contribute to the appearance of different symptoms: hot flashes, night sweats, brain fog, mood swings, insomnia, vaginal dryness and decreased sexual desire. However, the experience varies among women,” they report from Public Health.
“We must not forget the impact also on sexuality and emotional well-being. For all this, mental health must be taken care of and strategies to manage stress must be adopted,” they add.
