Mendelssohn Days of Music start with Depardieu film

Bad Soden (bs) – Gerard Depardieu comes to the Bad Soden Mendelssohn Days of Music – not in person, but on the screen. He plays an aged music teacher in the French historical film “The Seventh String”, which is taking place at this year’s festival Saturday, October 19, at 7 p.m opened in the CasaBlanca cinema, Zum Quellenpark 2.

France around 1650: After the death of his wife, the gifted viol player Sainte Colombe devotes himself entirely to his compositions out of grief. Only music keeps him alive. Until one day a talented student knocks on his door and lures him out of his wooden hermitage. The visually stunning costume drama is accompanied by viol sounds and songs as a homage to baroque music. The gamba – previously also called knee violin or leg violin – is a seven-string string instrument from the violin family. Overall, the film is “of enchanting beauty that radiates breathtaking power,” as the lexicon of international film writes.
