Cosmetic surgery and cosmetic medicine are no longer just a female territory. According to a recent survey conducted by Facile.it in collaboration with mUp Research and Bilendi, in the last two years men invested 28% more than women in surgery and aesthetic medicine. Among these, 12.5% even chose to finance the expense with a loan.
Interest in cosmetic surgery among men is growing
The investigation revealed that approx 7.3 million people in Italy they carried out at least one aesthetic treatment in the last two years. Young people and men are particularly interested in these treatments: over 670,000 under 25s have seen a cosmetic surgeon, a figure that rises to 1.5 million if we consider those under 30.
Most requested beauty treatments: men vs women
Among both men and women, the most popular treatments do not differ much.
Men especially choose:
Women, however, prefer:
- permanent laser hair removal (7.2%),
- fillers with hyaluronic acid (4.1%),
- cosmetic dentistry (4%),
- injections of botulinum (1,8%).
Some treatments, however, show specific preferences: for example, approximately 275,000 men have opted for hair transplantWhile 202.000 donne they chose interventions of mammoplasty.
Average spending on cosmetic procedures: men spend more
The survey shows that, although women undergo cosmetic procedures slightly more often than men (18% versus 17%), the latter tend to spend more. In the last two years, the average expenditure for men was 3,282 euros for intervention, compared to 2,564 euros for womenwith a spending difference of 28%.
Approximately 10% of the sample financed the treatment with a loanwith a higher incidence among men (12.5%) than women (7.7%). Furthermore, 11.7% of respondents requested financial support from family members.
Cosmetic surgery abroad: savings and privacy
They are about 376,000 Italians have chosen to undergo beauty treatments abroad. The main motivation is economic savings, indicated by 62% of those interviewed, while 22% chose to go outside Italy to find better skills. For 45,000 people, however, the decision was made for confidentiality reasons.
Among the favorite destinations for cosmetic surgery abroad are Turkey (30%), Albania (20%) and Croatia (16%).
Conclusion: a cultural change underway
These data demonstrate how cosmetic surgery is now widespread among men and young peoplewith a growing tendency to resort to interventions to improve their appearance. From the choice of the country for the operation to the most requested treatments, cosmetic surgery evolves to respond to the need for savings and privacy, revealing a cultural change that challenges old prejudices and makes beauty a priority also for the male world.
