A study has been published showing an increased risk of gout in young men with metabolic syndrome. Then, the research team conducted a follow-up study to see if changes in metabolic syndrome affect the occurrence of gout. As a result of analyzing 1.29 million men aged 20 to 39 who participated in three consecutive health checkups at two-year intervals, the risk of gout was nearly four times higher in those with chronic metabolic syndrome compared to those without continuous metabolic syndrome.

When a person without metabolic syndrome developed metabolic syndrome, the risk of gout more than doubled. Conversely, when people with metabolic syndrome recovered from metabolic syndrome, the risk of gout was reduced by nearly half. This study has been published in two international journals.
