Japanese police have again arrested people for unsanitary behavior in a restaurant. Videos of the so-called ‘sushi terror’ in Japan have been circulating on social media for some time now.
A 35-year-old and a 34-year-old man posted a video on social media showing one of them using his own chopsticks to eat ginger from a container. That container was also used by other restaurant guests. The video has since been taken offline.
Osaka police arrested the two men on charges of disturbing the peace and vandalizing and contaminating property. Both men have pleaded guilty.
One of the men said he wanted to make people laugh. He was asked by his friend to do something funny in front of the camera. That’s why he decided to eat ginger with his own sticks from the container that other people also use, instead of using the cutlery that is intended for that purpose.
If convicted of disorderly conduct, the men could face up to three years in prison and a fine of up to 500,000 yen ($3,500). They risk a prison sentence of up to three years and a fine of up to 300,000 yen (2,100 euros) for destruction of property.
Sushi terror went viral in Japan
Several sushi chains in Japan have had to deal with this type of prank. Videos of restaurant guests behaving badly have been circulating on social media for some time now.
Earlier, three people were arrested for behaving “unhygienic” in sushi restaurants. For example, the trio licked bowls, toothpicks and chopsticks and then put them back on the table.
