TELEVISION. A real estate developer doing business in the Memphremagog region, Carl-François Durocher-Milani, was at the heart of an investigative report on “La Facture”, broadcast on Radio-Canada on February 9. The show also warns citizens and their wallets about this man who plans to build homes for the elderly in Eastman.
The mayoress of Austin, Lisette Maillé, is one of the speakers who took part in the report, responding openly to the questions of journalist François Dallaire. As explained by the first magistrate, her Municipality had some trouble with the main interested party for several years, hence her wish to expose her experience in the public square.
“The idea of agreeing to do the interview was to do something useful and to be of service, quite simply. The Municipality did quite well despite everything. But there are people who were much less fortunate, as the report demonstrated. And I know others in the same situation who preferred not to testify. ”
Knowing that Carl-François Durocher-Milani is still active in the region and above all, free of his actions, Lisette Maillé maintains that it was her duty as a citizen to sound the alarm bells and as mayor, to prevent his colleagues from the surrounding area. “This promoter works with us, in our courses, so it was impossible for me to be silent while leaving him free rein. Especially since he is working on a project for the elderly who, as we know, are easy prey. Cases of abuse are constantly in the news. When a project is piloted by this kind of person, we cannot think that our people are safe, ”the politician fears.
Even if she knew all the facts exposed in the report, Lisette Maillé maintains that she would have been unable to put all the pieces in the right order, as the journalist did. Moreover, the report in question is entitled not by chance “When a spider weaves its web”, because of the complexity of the whole affair.
Serious consequences
To get to know the businessman Alain Chagnon (Vertendre), who lost $ 1.5 million in a business relationship with Mr. Durocher-Milani (see other article), Lisette Maillé recalls that such experiences can have serious repercussions. “Some people say it’s only money. But we saw it with Mr. Chagnon who became very emotional in the report. It comes looking for people and it can even demolish them, she continues. Victims of fraud blame themselves, find themselves naive and feel humiliated. And if we think of our seniors, they could leave their savings there. ”
“My goal in exposing this story is precisely to prevent people from going through things that could be very difficult, traumatic and even put them on the streets. At least now there is a face and a story associated with the name of Carl-François Durocher-Milani and let’s hope word of mouth does its job, ”she concludes.
