Memorial service at Mortensrud after the murder of the 20-year-old. One minute of silence turned into two … and three.

Ismail Bashir was one of many who wanted to attend Saturday’s memorial service at Mortensrud. His brother was friends with the killed 20-year-old.

– We stand together in the suffering, says Zahid Bhatti, who works with young people in the area.

Young people and young adults flocked to Lofsrud school in Mortensrud on Saturday night.

They were there to remember and honor the 20-year-old man who was killed on Thursday. In black bubble jackets and black coats, they stood together in front of the lights, the roses and the big picture of him that no longer exists.

– We stand together in suffering. We are a big family, says Zahid Bhatti.

He works with young people at Søndre Nordstrand Muslim Center. On Saturday, he spoke to everyone who attended the memorial service for the 20-year-old.

“He was a good boy, and he lives in our hearts,” Bhatti said.

One minute of silence turned into another. And one more. For a long time you could only hear the wind whistling in the trees around the school.

The local community is deeply affected by the murder of the young man.

– He had bad luck that day

On Thursday, the 20-year-old was shot in the grass behind Lofsrud school at Mortensrud south of Oslo. The next day he died from the shots.

– The family is broken. Children should grow up, go to school, maybe play football. Children should not be shot, says Farid Bouras.

Assistance lawyer Farid Bouras.

Bouras is the assistance lawyer for the family of the killed 20-year-old.

– He was an easy-going, decent, sympathetic, helpful and happy boy. He had bad luck that day, he adds.

When Aftenposten meets him at the memorial service, he says that he has just had a chat with one of the young men who was with the 20-year-old the night he was shot.

– I just talked to someone who saw his friend being killed. He tells me he has not slept in two days. He sees pictures in his head.

The killing happened without warning, according to the assistance lawyer.

– They were a group that sat outside the school that night. They laughed and had a good time. Suddenly a person with a Finnish hood appeared. He shot through a large rounding in a thick brick wall that was right next to them, says Bouras.

Many presented flowers and lit candles for the killed 20-year-old at Lofsrud school on Saturday night.

– Probably a casualty

No one has yet been arrested for the murder, the police say.

– The family is completely crushed. They ask everyone who may have information to report to the police so that they can clarify why the son was shot and by whom, John Christian Elden writes to Aftenposten.

He and Farid Bouras are assistance lawyers for the family of the 20-year-old man.

– The fact that there are many indications that he is a random victim, makes it all meaningless, at the same time as it is more difficult to solve. The police are under pressure with many cases in a short time, but we reckon that the necessary resources will be used to solve a murder, Elden writes further.
