Mexico City. Less than a day after being installed, the memorial to remember the 43 normalistas of Ayotzinapa is damaged.
The structure was installed yesterday by fathers and mothers, as well as solidarity organizations, on the 10th anniversary of the disappearance of their children.
On a tour taken by The Day In Antimonument +43, on Paseo de la Reforma, it was observed that three mosaics are broken.
One of these is the one with the photograph of the student Carlos Lorenzo Hernández Muñoz, while the one of Christian Tomás Colón Garnica is missing a piece, only part of the face and his surnames are visible.
The same damage presents another mosaic, which is the one that had a QR code with which, by placing the camera of a cell phone, one could access the reports of the Interdisciplinary Group of Independent Experts (GIEI).
The groups of families of the disappeared repudiated this act of “contempt and hatred,” and demanded that the federal and Mexico City governments provide protection to the memorial, in addition to investigating and punishing those responsible.
“Ten years ago we woke up with the painful news of the disappearance, today with the news that several faces woke up broken,” they lamented in a statement.
The memorial reads: “We installed this memorial to demand truth, justice and the end of impunity in our country. “10 years after the events, our demand is unwavering, so we demand from the government that our children be presented alive.”
