Memoria Turchina: Former Players and Club History at the Heart of SC Bastia

“Turchinu un ghjornu, Turchinu per semper”. These words still resonate in the minds of former Sporting players who, even today, are more than ever at the side of the club that has forever marked them.

A link with the former blues, notably maintained through the “Memoria Turchina” alumni club, created at the initiative of the SCB, but also of the Associu Sporting Bastia 92, now a partner of the club and bringing together the players from 1992 , but not only…

Awareness raising mission with the Associu Sporting Bastia 92

Thus, at the request of the Club’s management and thanks to the sincere conviction of the Laslandes-Moretti pair, the Associu Sporting Bastia 92 intervened this Monday with the first team before the derby against AC Ajaccio. The objective was to raise awareness among the players of the professional group, and in particular the new arrivals, of the rich and fascinating history of the club of which they are the heirs.

It was also about highlighting the club’s extraordinary ability to bounce back and move forward after crises and sometimes dizzying falls. After the disaster of 1992 as after the descent into hell of 2017, only Sporting was able to be reborn like the phoenix to continue writing its history and that of our island.

In the presence of President Claude Ferrandi throughout this beautiful day, former players Mamadou Faye and Pierre Maroselli were gathered alongside journalists Jean-Paul Cappuri and Didier Grassi. The 4 men were able to lead discussions with the first team players after watching a film retracing key moments in the club’s history.

Memoria Turchina, or the reunion of generations

Still this Monday and largely thanks to the very appreciable in-depth work carried out recently far from the spotlight by François Caffarel and Jean-Louis Constant, the Memoria Turchina alumni club met at lunchtime for a meal around the captain legendary of Sporting during the 70s: Charles Orlanducci.

The trophy room at the Stade Armand-Cesari was specially decorated for the occasion with Vescuvato Lion jerseys from his many seasons at the club. Real relics made available by the Balanin collector Jacky Santucci, whose dynamism combined with the daily investment of the Club’s staff now makes it possible to offer visitors to the trophy room several themes over the weeks and months. A sign that the life of the Club is not just about match nights.

To conclude this magnificent day, Charles Orlanducci finally returned to the Furiani pitch by giving the fictitious kick-off of the derby against AC Ajaccio in a great evening atmosphere and to a standing ovation.

Through the highly appreciated actions it carries out throughout the year, the Memoria Turchina club aims to maintain the link between the generations of players and managers who have made and who still make today the The history of Sporting, as the President of the Club reminds us, “the rich history of our Club cannot be told and lived without the presence of our elders who wrote it. We have reopened the door to their homes and we reaffirm it today since they are accompanying us as closely as possible on such an important day.”

The alumni club thus greatly contributes to the development of club culture among the current generation who also have their chapter to write in the stands and on the pitch. A development which, on the basis of volunteerism and the work of the most willing, will now allow the implementation of new actions, including, among other things, a strengthened partnership with the Associu Sporting Bastia 1992.
