Memmingen wins the 5th Zurich Trophy

The fifth edition saw the fifth winner: the “Indians” from Memmingen, a German women’s ice hockey stronghold. The predecessors came from Vienna, Mannheim, Zurich and Budapest. The German champions, who also narrowly defeated their Swiss counterparts 2:1, finished the tournament with 8 points ahead of the Neuchâtel Hockey Academy (4 points), followed by the Zurich and Mannheim teams, both with the same number of points and the same goal difference, and the KSV Highlanders.

From the hosts’ point of view, they had hoped for more. The Lionesses won the first match against the Austrian representative with a clear 5:1. Against Mannheim, the Zurich team could not get past a 0:0 despite having a clear advantage in terms of chances, and against Neuenburg, the opponent’s goal also seemed to be locked despite very good opportunities (1:3, the third goal fell into an empty net 30 seconds before the end). It remains the case that a large squad was tested in all matches.

This marks the end of this year’s preparation period and the 2024/25 championship for the Lionesses will begin next weekend with two home games. Their opponents will be the HCAP Girls (two defeats so far) and the Davos Ladies (one win so far).
