Memmingen nationwide corona hotspot – Munich over incidence 50

Nationwide, the number of new corona infections is falling – and in Bavaria even a little more clearly than the overall German average. But a Bavarian city is pretty much running away: According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), Memmingen had an incidence of 238.1 corona infections per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days on Sunday.

Persistently over 200: Strict corona rules in Memmingen

The incidence was over 200 on Sunday for the fifth day in a row, as the city announced on its website, citing the RKI. For the citizens there, this means strict corona rules such as closed shops and a night curfew.

Memmingen is currently the number one corona hotspot – not only in Bavaria, but throughout Germany. The districts of Hildburghausen (196.2) and Gotha (180.9) in Thuringia followed at some distance. Throughout Bavaria, Coburg was in second place with a seven-day incidence of 160.7, followed by Schweinfurt (146.0).

Transmission mishap: Munich again over 50 mark

A total of 14 cities and districts were above the 100 threshold in Bavaria on Sunday, according to the figures from the RKI (as of 3.10 a.m.). Weiden in the Upper Palatinate (14.0) was at the lower end of the scale, followed by the cities of Bayreuth (17.4) and Amberg (19.0).

In Munich, the incidence slipped back over the 50 mark to 53.5. On Saturday, the RKI had given the incidence as 43.1. But the number was probably too low: The city announced that there had been technical problems with the transmission of the infection numbers.

Throughout Bavaria, the incidence on Pentecost Sunday was 62.6 and thus still slightly below the national average, which the RKI stated as 64.5. 1,107 new corona infections became known in the Free State within 24 hours – and 12 more deaths.
