Members of KO Filiks, Hajdar and Krzywonos apologize for voting for the increases

  • “I did not take care (and this is a great reason for shame for me today) to approach my work honestly and read the project” – wrote Magdalena Filiks
  • “As soon as the bill returns to the Seym, I will vote against,” promised Riad Haidar
  • Henryka Krzywonos called on Donald Tusk to “propose a 20 percent reduction in the salaries of MEPs and EU authorities”

The draft of pay rises voted by the Sejm, incl. caused public outrage for deputies, ministers, the prime minister and the president. Particularly often criticized is the opposition, which in the vast majority supported the law together with Law and Justice. The new law was quickly passed to the Senate.

Magdalena Filiks: I could not vote at all

Magdalena Filiks, a member of the Civic Coalition, commented on the criticism falling on the opposition parties. “I would like to apologize to those of you who I have humanly failed – my voters. I am fully aware of the trust that many of you placed in me in the fall of last year. It was a great honor – greater than the mandate in parliament. I know that I will not change what I do. you felt it and nothing will change it, but I apologize from the bottom of my heart, “she wrote on Facebook.

“I returned to Warsaw the night before the session of the Sejm. In the morning I woke up with a very high fever and, thanks to the help of Małgosia Kidawa Błońska, I was quickly taken to the hospital. I did not enter the Sejm anymore. As we have the technical possibility of remote voting, and there were a lot of voting that day, I made the wrong decision the decision to take part in voting remotely from the hospital “- wrote the MP.

“I did not care about it (and this is a great shame for me today) to approach my work honestly and read the project. I relied on the scraps of information (as I know today) that I received. I apologize for that too, because this is not what you expect from your representative “- admitted Filiks.

“Of course I could not vote at all – which would not have had any impact on the result of these votes, but it is a serious mistake what I did when I approached my duties without due diligence. It was me who, due to the fever and hospitalization, failed to fulfill my duties. Of course it costs nothing to put my cell phone aside. Nobody told me to do it – probably nobody expected me to do it “- he explains.

“Lots of advisers today advised me not to write it and admit it and simply not react, because it will not change anything and it will pass. Regardless of the fact that it will not change anything, the word I am sorry for being disappointed. people who felt disappointed because of me and my attitude. It is an important lesson for me and a valuable lesson for the future “- concludes the member of the Civic Coalition.

Riad Haidar: I admit my mistake

Fellow KO MEP Riad Haidar commented on the matter shortly. “As soon as the law on pay rises for deputies, senators and the government returns to the Sejm, I will vote against” – he promised on Facebook.

“I admit I made a mistake in the first vote. Sorry,” he added.

Henryka Krzywonos appeals to Tusk and … removes the entry

The deputy of the KO, Henryka Krzywonos, first published the apology on Facebook, but later removed it. “Due to the storm related to Friday’s vote on raising salaries, I would like to inform you that I voted >> for << because it was the club's recommendation" - we could read in her entry.

“However, since the majority of the society believes that a deputy to the Sejm is to earn 80 percent of what he earned two years ago, I will sign it and vote for every amendment proposed by the Senate” – assured Krzywonos.

“I also admit that it is indeed not the right time to raise MPs and the government, as was not the right time two years ago for cuts by 20% during the economic boom. However, due to the enormous decline in GDP in the EU countries, I also appeal to the head of the largest faction of the European Union – the EPP Donald Tusk, for a proposal to reduce the salaries of MEPs and EU authorities by 20 percent. I apologize to those disappointed “- added the KO deputy.
