Respiratory tract infections and viruses seen with the onset of winter months have overflowed hospital emergency rooms. Thoracic Disease Specialist and Scientific Committee Member Prof. Dr. Tevfik Özlü drew attention to respiratory tract infections that occur with cooling weather. prof. Dr. Özlü warned against prolonged coughing from his social media account.
Özlü said, “Under this cough can lie problems such as asthma, allergic rhinitis, chronic sinusitis / pharyngitis and reflux. Sometimes, it can be a harbinger of diseases such as COPD, lung hardening, bronchiectasis, lung tumors. Prolonged cough should be taken seriously”.
Özlü used the following statements in his post on his Twitter account:
“These days, I have many patients who say, ‘The flu is gone, the cough is gone.’ Cough that doesn’t get better with cough suppressants after respiratory infections, doesn’t respond to traditional treatments like ginger, cinnamon , honey, linden, lemon, does not sleep at night and persists throughout the day.
The cough does not keep the patient awake at night, he goes to sleep in a separate room, can be heard from neighboring apartments, can prevent him from talking, eating and drinking; The person is afraid of getting involved in society because the coughing fits will start between people. Problems like asthma, allergic rhinitis, chronic sinusitis/pharyngitis, reflux can be found under this cough.
Sometimes it can be a harbinger of diseases such as COPD, hardening of the lungs, bronchiectasis, lung tumors. Prolonged coughing should be taken seriously.”
These days, I have a lot of patients who say, “The flu is gone, the cough is gone.” After respiratory tract infections that do not improve with cough suppressants; A persistent cough that does not respond to traditional treatments such as ginger, cinnamon, honey, linden and lemon continues throughout the day.
