Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – The National Committee to Combat Coronavirus in Egypt has estimated that the real number of Coronavirus infections is “ten times that of those officially announced” by the health authorities in the country.
A member of the National Committee, Dr. Muhammad Al-Nadi, said in an intervention with the media, Lamees Al-Hadidi, on the “Final Word” program broadcast on “ON” satellite: “We have more Corona injuries than the one announced.”
The club stated: “The real number of Corona injuries in Egypt is ten times the declared,” adding: “And we remain courteous,” meaning that we are talking about the lowest possible estimate.
The club believed that “if we conducted a genetic study of the Corona virus, we might find the new strain in Egypt … the new strain of Corona may be present in Egypt.”
By “the new strain,” the club meant that new variant of the Corona virus, which Britain revealed on Saturday. Cases have been discovered in the Netherlands, Denmark and Australia, according to the World Health Organization.
On Saturday, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said in a press conference that the new strain is responsible for 60% of the recent cases of the epidemic in London. It indicated that its infection is 70% more transmissible than current strains.
A member of the National Committee to Combat Corona in Egypt warned that the virus will spread faster in the coming period. While he said that despite the spread rate taking an upward curve, its multiples are not different from what happened in the first wave.
Dr. Mohamed El-Nady pointed out that Egypt had provided a website affiliated with the Ministry of Health to start recording the data of citizens wishing to receive vaccinations, and that the priority was for the elderly, people with chronic diseases and fighters.
