The health crisis has led to a vocations crisis and we must find solutions to retain staff. According to management, around twenty nurses left the emergency room in 2020, but out of this number, they estimate three resignations linked to the practice of emergency medicine.
“Balancing act”
“We are in difficulty in these trades, admits the director. But this is not unique to Melun: the health crisis has tired many people. “Departures that worry the unions:” What will happen if we run out of arms in the middle of the 3rd wave? We will be forced to close beds, says one at Sud santé sociaux, which specifies “not to underestimate the difficulties of recruitment. “
A finding that is “absolutely not on the agenda”, according to management. On the contrary. “We will strengthen the supply of beds, there is absolutely no question of closing any. But at the same time, we have to do a balancing act to find staff, ”emphasizes Dominique Peljak.
And Franck Langlois, the director of care, adds: “There is a major exhaustion of professionals with the crisis, sometimes with cases of post-traumatic shock. So with this never-ending marathon… ”
“Collective spirit”
On the side of the CGT, we expect a lot from this expertise: “These are services in high tension, recalls Fabienne Bezio, but emergencies were already before the crisis. There is a lack of consideration of hospital staff then added to the precariousness of the public service, we better understand the departure of staff. “
This union hopes that the expertise will highlight the weak points of the services, to provide lasting solutions. “Benevolent management, more collective spirit: there are things to do. The suffering was there before the health crisis. ”
Currently, 63 nurses and 27 nursing assistants work in emergencies and respectively 62 and 40 in intensive care. “We often talk about the waiting time in the emergency room, but we must not forget that the lack of city doctors is the cause,” says Fabienne Bezio.
By September 2021, a flat rate of € 18 will be applied to patients going to the emergency room and who will not be hospitalized. “We see beautiful images of caregivers on TV, but in the field, the reality is different: there is fatigue and anger,” we conclude at Sud santé sociaux. The result of the expertise is expected during the month of April.
