The Fête des Rois de Chandolin, in the Val d’Anniviers, will live on Sunday at the time of its 61st edition. “This event takes on a friendly, family-like character each year. At the heart of the holidays, it brings warmth and good humor throughout the village, “says Magali Crettaz, from the OT in Chandolin.
This tradition born at the initiative of Marcel Bonvin, a local figure, dates back to 1960. Since then, it has enjoyed a remarkable echo among the population. “The Feast of Kings is one of those customs that we continue to maintain with fervor,” added the receptionist.
The meeting will start at 9:15 a.m. on Place Plampras. Melchior, Gaspard and Balthazar will naturally be there to welcome residents and vacationers as they should.
Aboard their sleigh, they will then cross the old village before participating in the Mass of the Kings animated by the choir of the church. This year, it will be up to the president of the bourgeoisie Jean-Pierre Zufferey to deliver an address for the occasion.
The program then provides for the blessing and distribution of the breads, the wine of honor offered by the local bourgeoisie and the performance of the Fifres and Drums.
The Three Kings will also be out this Saturday, January 4, near Vercorin. During this festive day, it will be possible to ski with them on the domain of the Anniviarde resort. From 4.30 p.m., the galette des Rois will be distributed at the Sheep Park.
