Setback for Melanie Leupolz! The Chelsea footballer’s international comeback is postponed. The reason: Leupolz becomes a masked woman!
After breaking her nose, Melanie Leupolz, who is returning, is not yet available for the German soccer team in the international match in the Netherlands on Good Friday (8 p.m./sportstudio.de).
“She has had a mask fitted and is being carefully introduced in training,” explained national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg, who promised Leupolz a comeback on Tuesday if the healing process went well.
Baby break ticked off – praise from the national coach
In Nuremberg against Brazil (6 p.m. / ARD), the 75-time national player from Chelsea should then play her first international match after the baby break.
Her six-month-old son is attending the DFB course in Frankfurt/Main, much to the delight of Voss-Tecklenburg, who was very impressed by the appearance of the 2016 Olympic champion: “She seems very fit, fresh and focused.”
The midfielder broke her nose last week when she reached the semi-finals of the Champions League with the Blues. The 28-year-old played her last international match in November 2021.
Her big goal is to take part in the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand (July 20th to August 20th), where Germany meets Morocco, Colombia and South Korea in the group stage. Then Leupolz definitely wants to be there. (sid)
