Mel Gibson to direct ‘Lethal Weapon’ fifth part | Movie

Gibson honored ‘Lethal Weapon’ director Richard Donner, who was responsible for all previous films, who died in July. “He was a giant, fantastic at his job. He gave me his blessing to take care of the upcoming movie while he was still working on the script. He said, “Listen boy, when I’m gone, you’re going to do it, because you can.” At first I thought he was just chatting, but he meant it. And then he did indeed die. Before he died, he told his wife and the producer that he wanted me to do it, so I will.”

An insider said Gibson will also be an actor in the role he previously played, but with a comedic twist. It is not yet known whether Danny Glover, who was Gibson’s main opponent, is back in the game. The first ‘Lethal Weapon’ film came out in 1987 and was nominated for an Oscar for Best Sound. The sequel film was released in 1989, adding Joe Pesci to the cast. The third edition was financially the biggest hit with millions of euros in profit, after which the fourth part was published in 1998.
