The German breakdance scene is starting up in Saxony in order to take off internationally and maybe even qualify for the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

On June 25th (4 p.m. to 9 p.m.), breakdance legend Heiko “Hahny” Hahnewald (56) is bringing 16 crews from Europe to Meissen for the “Down To The Beat Contest”.
A total of 56 break dancers will open the “cultural summer” with their competition on the market square stage. “In order to make it attractive for the audience, there are always three against three dancers,” says Hahny.
The top acts include the three-time German champions, the “Saxonz”. But also the “Black Out Crew” from Thessaloniki in Greece, the five-time winners of the “Battle Of The Year Balkans”.

Youngsters are particularly important to the two-time East German breakdance champion. And it is funded by the Anneli-Marie Foundation Meissen – founded by the parents of the entrepreneur’s daughter Anneli-Marie, who was kidnapped and killed in August 2015.
No foundation or city, but the energy drink giant Red Bull is behind the breakdance competition on July 9 in Dresden’s “Stromwerk”.
The best eight b-girls and 16 b-boys in the country compete at the “Red Bull BC One Cypher Germany”. But only one male and one male dancer can qualify for the final on November 12 in New York.
