Meineke in Bremen closes Sögestraße

The shoe store, which was founded in Vegesack in 1891 by master shoemaker Rudolf Meineke and is also located on Sögestrasse, is one of the oldest owner-managed specialist shops in Bremen. A family tradition that has been preserved for five generations ends with the closure at the beginning of November.

The loss of sales due to the lock-down during the sales weeks with the highest sales in a summer season at normal times led to the application for insolvency under self-administration at the beginning of May. The main proceedings were opened in August. In close cooperation with the attorney Justus von Buchwaldt and the attorney general agent Hagen Biermann, the management took the necessary measures to organize the continued existence of the company. Among other things, Comes management consultancy was commissioned with an investor process.

The goal of handing over all three sales outlets to one or more investors and thus preserving all 23 jobs could unfortunately only be implemented for the two stores in Vegesack. The Sögestraße location could not be conveyed in numerous nationwide discussions with potential companies in the shoe industry. The location will be closed in the first week of November.

From November 1st, a successor will continue the two stores “Schuhhaus Meineke” and “Schuhhaus Nordenholz” in Vegesack with all employees who have already been employed there.

In Sögestraße, numerous regular customers bought shoes again during the ongoing clearance sale and many customers complained about the situation and expressed their regrets about the closure, the Meinekes report. The Meineke team thanks the many customers for whom Bremen Schuhhaus Meineke was always the preferred address for the desired shoes.
