Meier admits that there is no theatrical intrigue behind his coming to Daili.
“Nor is there anything defined as ‘overbought actors’ these days.
This choice to move to Riga is my own way, because actors sometimes think of something without money. It’s really my own decision, and I don’t want to say a single bad word about Valmiera, because life takes its own turns. (..) We don’t belong to anyone anymore, and actors can think about themselves,” says Meier.
He does not hide that with the Valmiera theater director Evita Asheraden “we have talked about everything, cried on each other’s shoulder (..) everything is very human”.
However, the actor emphasizes that he still has to play in Valmiera in the premiere of the season’s new production – Raini’s play “Jāzeps and his brothers”, which is scheduled for October. He will also finish the productions he started and his “on-going” shows.
It has already been reported that at the beginning of June, the artistic director of the New Riga Theater (JRT), director Alvis Hermanis, warned on social networks about the possible legal proceedings against the director of the Daile Theater Juri Žagar and the artistic director, director Viestura Kairiš: “The big theater businessman Juris Žagar and his friend Krišjānis Barons from The Stalin Prize laureate Smilģas Daile Theater can already start preparing for another big lawsuit. This time the plaintiffs will be JRT, Valmiera and Liepāja theaters, whose young actors-students who have just received their education are being brutally bought out. At the moment, as far as we know, at least 12 young actors have been contacted .”
In response to Hermani’s statement, Dailes Theater issued an official statement published on Facebook. In it, the theater explains that it currently has four vacancies for actors and that not twelve, but three specific young actors and one middle-generation actor have been approached with a job offer at Dailes Theatre.
Shortly after that, it became known that VSIA “Dailes theaters” registered a commercial pledge with the maximum amount of the secured claim of 654,000 euros.
Well, it has become known that Marta Lovisa from JRT, Meynards Liepiņš from Valmiera Drama Theater and Madara Viļčukas, a young actress from Liepāja Theater, have joined Dailes Theater this season.
