Latvian basketball player Mārtiņš Meiers stood out with 14 points in the United League game on Saturday, however, this did not save his representative “Astana” from the second loss this season.
“Astana” gave away the Kazan “Unics” with 83: 101 (19:22, 23:31, 23:23, 18:25), who played their first game of the season.
Meiers spent 22 minutes and 14 seconds playing in the game, scoring 14 points and winning three rebounds. The Latvian sent all six two-point shots in the basket, as well as both “penalties”. With 16 points and six rebounds, Adonis Thomas was the scorer in the Meier team, while Michael Thompson scored another 15 points and five assists.
In the Kazan unit, 23 points for Going Canan, John Holland scored 19 points and seven rebounds, while Jamar Smith threw 16 points into the opponent’s basket.
After two rounds of games, “Astana” is in the last, 13th place with two failures, while the highest of the Latvian teams is Mareka Mejer’s Perm “Parma”, which is the sixth with one victory.
As in the previous season, 13 teams will start in this regular tournament – nine from Russia, as well as one unit each from Estonia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Poland. For the second season in a row, the VEF Rīga team is not participating in the tournament.
The 2019/2020 league season ended prematurely due to a pandemic caused by the coronavirus, without finding out the champion. At the time of the termination of the championship, the Khimki district of Moscow was in the first place, but the second place was taken Moscow CSKA.
