“Mego” Opens Largest Store in Latvia in Jelgava – Investment Project Celebrated

“Mego” board member Igors Šihmans admits that he is happy to end the year with such an investment project, opening the largest “Mego” store in Latvia in Jelgava. “We are happy that our more than 20 years of work has yielded results and customers appreciate Mego’s efforts to improve the shopping experience in our stores. Taking care of customer service and keeping up with the times is important to us. The premises of the new “Mego” store are equipped with LED lighting, and six cash registers are available for visitors. Along with LED lighting, the most energy-efficient and environmentally friendly retail equipment has also been installed,” says I. Šihmans.

The company informs that the total area of the new supermarket is around 3,000 square meters, of which 1,720 square meters are allocated for sales. The new grocery store has 49 employees, including three pastry chefs and six cooks.

The company’s observations show that more and more people appreciate the finished products offered in the store. As a result, modern pastry and cooking workshops have been installed in the new shop, and visitors will be offered fresh ready-made food products every day.

“It is important for the municipality that residents can conveniently receive the widest range of services near their place of residence. The largest “Mego” store in Latvia is being opened today in Jelgava, and we hope that the residents of Jelgava will be satisfied with the store’s offer. I think that as the competition increases, the price policy will also change – it could become more customer-friendly. But the most important thing is that new jobs have been created here for almost half a hundred people,” said Andris Rāviņš, chairman of the Jelgava City Council, at the opening of the store.

Juris Kalvelis, board member of SIA “Marno J”, the owner of the building of the shopping center “Pilsētas pasāža”, says that the largest shopping center in Zemgale has got its own grocery store, even more so – the first “Mego” supermarket in Latvia. “Since the start of cooperation, Mego has become one of our most important partners, because cooperation with local companies has always been a priority for us. This year, we have also invested a lot of money in measures to promote the energy efficiency of the shopping center,” said J. Kalvelis.

It should be noted that the “Mego” chain of stores is a 100% Latvian capital company that has been operating in Latvia for 20 years. There are 90 Mego brand stores in the network, which employ more than 2,500 people.
