Samantha Markle’s defamation lawsuit against her half-sister Meghan has been dropped. A Florida judge on Friday ruled that Samantha’s case rests on an “opinion” – and you can’t prove that to be true or false.
Markle sued her half-sister for statements from her interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021. Prince Harry’s wife said, among other things, that she “grew up as an only child”.
Her half-sister called that “false and malicious lies” and claims that her reputation has been damaged as a result. She demanded damages of $ 75,000 (more than 68,000 euros).
The Duchess of Sussex’s legal team wanted the case dropped because Meghan spoke about her own experience in the interview. The judge agrees. According to him, Meghan is “only expressing an opinion about her childhood and her relationship” with her half-sister.
