Meghan Markle returned to real life with a bang (and some boos).
On Friday morning, the former “Suits” star and her husband, Prince Harry, attended the Platinum Jubilee Thanksgiving service at St. Paul’s Cathedral along with the royal family.
Markle, 40, looked marvelous in a Dior Haute Couture Spring-Summer 2022 ensemble, featuring a belted long cream trench coat, wool skirt and organza shirt.
The Duchess of Sussex accessorized the understated outfit with more Dior, including gloves, shoes and a playful wide-brimmed Dior hat – a game designed by Stephen Jones.
While she was not photographed with a bag, she was said to be carrying the Lady Dior, a favorite bag of her late mother-in-law.
Choosing Dior from head to toe was a subtle nod to Diana. After their divorce, Princess Diana frequently appeared in the French designer’s products and was first given the boxy bag by the wife of French Prime Minister Jacques Chirac, Bernadette, in 1995. Diana wore the accessory so often that Dior renamed the Lady Dior bag in her honor in 1996.
Diana also attended the Met Gala only once in 1996, when the exhibition and party honored Christian Dior and his designs, wearing a navy blue dress and sapphire jewelry.
Coincidentally, Kate Middleton chose the same drop earrings that Diana wore to the New York fashion event for Trooping the Color on Thursday.
The service marks the first time Harry and Meghan have been seen publicly with senior members of the royal family, including Prince William and Kate Middleton, since Commonwealth Day in March 2020. They were joined by Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie and their husbands in the second row. .
