Meghan Markle victim of coordinated hate campaign …

The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, has been the victim of a deliberate hate and disinformation campaign on Twitter. That concludes a report from Bot Sentinel, which identified the 83 accounts behind the majority of abusive tweets addressed to Meghan and her husband Harry.

Both Prince Harry and his wife Meghan are targeted on Twitter, but about 80 percent of the insults are directed at her. This is the conclusion of Bot Sentinel, a company that specializes in the analysis of tweets. 114,000 tweets about the couple were analyzed, and 93 accounts believed to be responsible for 70 percent of the insults were identified.

55 of those accounts had the sole purpose of stoking the smear campaign against Meghan and Harry, Bot Sentinel said. The 28 other accounts also served mainly to reinforce the message of those primary accounts. In total, the accounts are said to have some 187,631 followers, and Bot Sentinel estimates that the tweets, which also contain veiled racist language, could reach a total of 17 million Twitter users.

According to the report, there was no ‘organic’ pattern in the interaction between the different accounts, so it appeared to be a coordinated effort to hit the couple harder. After all, most accounts seemed to be powered by humans. “We found very little evidence that bots are being used,” Bot Sentinel CEO Christopher Bouzy told The Washington Post.
