A spokesperson for the duchess told CNN that Markle made this visit “in her personal capacity as a mother, to offer her condolences and support in person to the community who are experiencing unimaginable pain.”
The 40-year-old duchess placed a bouquet of white roses in front of one of the crosses placed in memory of the victims of the tragedy next to the Uvalde courts.
Markle, accompanied by a bodyguard, approached one of the crosses bearing the name of one of the dead children, 10-year-old Rogelio Torres, with her head bowed, before bending down to put the bouquet down.
The Duchess currently resides in California with her husband, Prince Harry of England, and their two children, Archie and Lilibet.
On Tuesday, an 18-year-old man identified as Salvador Ramos entered Robb Elementary School in Uvalde with an automatic rifle and opened fire on students in a class, killing 19 children and two teachers.
