In January, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced plans to ditch their royal duties and move to North America to gain “financial independence.” The couple resigned their roles as royalty in March.

Meghan Markle could have overestimated the influence and power of the Royal Family when she decided to marry Prince Harry, the royal expert Penny Junor has said.
According to Junor, the Royal Family is expected to stay away from politics, but Markle apparently did not understand the way royals operate. She explained that her intention to marry the prince was motivated in part by the idea that it would help fuel her activism. “But I think probably what she discovered when she came to the royal family was that she couldn’t be as active as she wanted to.”
“The Royal Family does not operate that way, it does not use its position to make changes,” stated the royal author, adding that the royal family is supposed to highlight and support problems rather than change them.
When she introduced herself as Harry’s fiancee in 2017, Markle was excited to talk about her charity work. In 2016, she became a global ambassador for World Vision Canada. The future Duchess of Sussex also ran a lifestyle blog called The Tig, though it was shut down shortly before the engagement announcement.
In September, the streaming titan Netflix announced that it had struck a deal with Harry and Meghan to create children’s shows, movies and documentaries together. Although the couple have said they intended to do “inspiring family programming,” reports appeared that this news terrorized Buckingham Palace over possible family secrets the couple were asked to reveal.
