In a 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, Markle, 43, revealed that she had suicidal thoughts while pregnant with her son Archie.
United States, August 4, 2024.- Meghan Markle has been in the middle of controversy since she and Prince Harry decided to end their relationship with the British royalty and resign, in 2020, from their position within the royal family to have a “normal” life in the United States with their children Archie and Lilibet.
Since then, the former actress has stayed away from the United Kingdom and undertaken different projects, from podcasts, foundations, to her luxury line American Riviera Orchard.
She has also given interviews about her time as a royal and about her lifestyle, always in the company of her husband Prince Harry. However, airing her life has also brought her problems and rejection from some sectors of society, who have called her an opportunist and of taking advantage of what she experienced as part of royalty.
And although Megan didn’t have it easy during her time as Crown Princess, she recently opened up and spoke about her mental health and the extremely negative thoughts she had due to the pressure of being part of the royal family while she was pregnant.
In an emotional interview with CBS, Meghan Markle said she had never spoken in depth about her mental health issues amid the expectations the royals had placed on her.
During a conversation for The Parents’ Network, a program launched by Meghan and Prince Harry, the two try to help parents who lost their children directly or indirectly due to social media.
While speaking about online bullying and its effects on young children, Markle talked about how her own experience connected her to these families.
“When you’ve been through any level of pain or trauma, I think part of our healing journey — and certainly part of mine — is being able to be really open about it… I haven’t been able to explain my experience in depth, but I don’t think I would ever want anyone else to feel that way, for anyone else to make those kinds of plans and not have anyone believe them,” she told CBS’ Sunday Morning.
In a 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, Markle, 43, revealed that she had suicidal thoughts while pregnant with her son Archie due to the pressure of dealing with life as a royal and the treatment she received at the hands of the British media.
The former “Suits” star said she “just didn’t see a solution” to the slew of negative reports about her.
Now Meghan and Harry, who are parents to Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3, are working to make sure other families don’t go through what they did with The Parents’ Network.
The initiative, launched with the couple’s Archewell Foundation, “will provide support to parents whose children have suffered the harmful effects of social media, faced near-fatal harm, managed ongoing mental health difficulties or experienced the tragic loss of a child,” according to a press release.
Meghan added that she hopes that expressing her own pain, even if she doesn’t delve into it, will encourage others to seek help, so she hopes it will be a teaching moment.
“Our children are young, they are 3 and 5 years old. They are amazing, but all we want to do as parents is protect them. And, as we can see what is happening in the online space, we know there is a lot of work to be done there, and we are happy to be able to be part of a change for the better,” the Duchess concluded.
