Meghan Markle gets just £1 in damages for privacy violation

Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, has been awarded token compensation of £1 (just over a euro) by the Mail on Sunday for violating her privacy. The wife of British Prince Harry had a dispute with the British tabloid because it allegedly violated her rights by publishing a handwritten letter from Meghan to her father. And she hadn’t consented to that.

According to the judge, the newspaper violated its privacy with the publication of the letter in 2018. The judge previously ordered the newspaper to publish a front page statement apologizing to the Duchess of Sussex. The newspaper has now acknowledged with a short statement that she was wrong.

According to Meghan’s lawyer, it was mainly a matter of principle for her to show that the media could not just publish everything about her.
