Meghan Markle has, according to the British television company ITV, gave a friend permission to participate in the much-discussed biography Finding Freedom about her and her husband Prince Harry. According to court documents, the Duchess of Sussex did this to prevent the story surrounding her father, Thomas Markle, from being miswritten.
Her legal team says the Duchess has given permission to a friend, whom she knew had already been contacted by the authors, to tell the correct story and thus prevent further spread of false information.
According to the documents, Markle was concerned that the false story of abandoning her father would be repeated. She says she tried to call him and wrote a letter to him to try to persuade him to cut off contact with the media.
The claim is central to the lawsuit brought by the Duchess against Associated Newpapers. Markle sued the publishing house because of the newspaper The Mail on Sunday published a “confidential, personal” handwritten letter to her father last February. The publishing house’s lawyers allege that Markle violated her own privacy by sharing details about her life with the authors of Finding Freedom. Earlier, the High Court in London already determined that the biography may be used in the case.
The tabloid newspaper believes that these passages could only have come about through the cooperation of Markle and Prince Harry. Earlier, a spokesperson for the couple said that they did not cooperate on the biography. Their lawyer emphasized this again during a hearing of the case.
The lawsuit was supposed to start on January 11 in London, but that date was moved late last month. Exactly when Markle is expected in court has not yet been announced.
