Samantha Markle, stepsister of the Duchess of Sussex and her main media scourge for years, not only projected a very unflattering image of Prince Harry’s wife in the first volume of her memoir, but also recently decided to file a lawsuit in against him on account of an alleged exercise of defamation.
In the opinion of the eldest daughter of Thomas Markle, Meghan’s father, the now aristocrat deliberately damaged her reputation by talking about the economic difficulties she suffered during her childhood: all this during the controversial interview she gave to Oprah Winfrey in early 2021. The former actress assured that she had to bear all the costs of her university stay and described the environment of her paternal family as “difficult”.
Samantha reacted furiously to that allegation and did not hesitate to try to dismantle it in successive interviews, defining her little sister as a kind of spoiled girl who had been given everything and who, far from being grateful, ended up denying her past and of theirs. Months later, the now author decided to take her outrage to court, thus suing the Duchess of Sussex.
Meghan Markle’s lawyers have not been slow to intervene and have asked the court managing the case to dismiss Samantha’s lawsuit, since in their opinion a mere subjective account of the personal experiences and feelings experienced by the Duchess cannot be considered defamatory. “It is a perception that in no case is subject to the parameters of what is false and true. It is impossible to imagine something more personal and authentic than the way in which each one sees their childhood. It remains a subjective and personal statement about how they feel someone his childhood”, reads an excerpt from the response.
