Chairman of the DPP Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), Megawati Sukarnoputri, cried while receiving the State Order of Friendship from the Russian Federation.
Mega couldn’t hold back her tears because she remembered her father, Sukarno, who had pioneered friendly relations between Russia and Indonesia.
“It’s a happy day, I have this honor, because, sorry I remember my father, even though I understand very well that he was the one who started to pioneer friendly relations between Russia and Indonesia,” Megawati said when receiving the State Service Star for Friendship which was broadcast online. online via the PDI Perjuangan Youtube account, Wednesday (2/6).
Megawati then remembered when she was young, when her father invited her to come pick up President Kliment Voroshilov who was visiting Indonesia.
“In my opinion, that is the starting point of the Indonesia-Russia friendly relations that have continued to this day,” said Megawati.
Furthermore, Megawati asked the Russian Ambassador to Indonesia, Lyudmila G. Vorobyova, to inform Russian President Vladimir Putin that she currently serves as Chair of the Steering Committee of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN).
“There are things that need to be conveyed to President Putin because not long ago, two months ago, President Jokowi had made the decision to create a new body called BRIN and I was assigned by President Jokowi to be chairman of the ex officio steering board of this new body,” he said
Megawati said that many things have been done to strengthen the bilateral relations between Indonesia and Russia.
He admitted that he never forgot when Putin gave him the opportunity to buy the main weapon system equipment (defense equipment) from Russia several years ago.
The 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia admitted that he had conveyed to Jokowi to continue to build relations with Russia related to research and outer space.
“Of course, as I said earlier, one of the things I have conveyed to President Jokowi, matters relating to space, we should continue to process between Russia and Indonesia,” he said.
“And I’ve also told Jokowi that one day we can tighten up, as I said earlier, in research relations with Russia,” said Megawati.
Megawati’s appointment as Chair of the BRIN Steering Committee had received intense public scrutiny.
Member of Commission VII DPR RI from the PKS faction, Mulyanto, stated that there was no legal basis that could legalize the option of the Chairman of the Steering Committee of the Pancasila Ideology and Development Agency (BPIP) to occupy the position of Chairman of the BRIN Steering Committee.
