Another woman who is changing the face of athletics and activism today is Naomi Osaka, holder of four Grand Slam titles and soon to be an Olympic athlete. While she has already been named one of the sports personalities of the year 2020 by Sports Illustrated and one of the 100 most influential people in the world according to Time in 2019 and 2020, she now makes history as the first black Haitian and Japanese athlete on a cover of Sports Illustrated special edition swimwear. The tennis legend is powerful on and off the court through his work to raise awareness of racial injustice, human rights and mental health.
“If there’s one thing our cover models have in common, it’s that they don’t have a single thing in common. They have a different look, a different upbringing, different passions and inspirations. But each one of them reminds us that beauty comes in many forms.“, said MJ Day, editor-in-chief of the magazine Sports Illustrated Swimsuit.
