It is the Bordeaux dance troupe MEGA UNITY which was awarded the big favorite of this 18th season by a vote of the French public. With a number full of skill and synchronicity, the group was able to take their revenge, having finished in second place during the 16th season of the popular show. However, the web was ignited on Friday evening, when the production was criticized for not fulfilling its mission of discovering “an incredible new talent” by preferring the return of a troupe which had already proven itself .
For David Corriveau, the experience remains unforgettable. “It was true, it was fun, it was touching!”, summed up the imitator, a few moments after his emotion-rich performance broadcast live on the French channel M6. “It was so intense! At the same time I was ready and I wanted to do it, we worked so hard to find the right emotion. It made me happy, it also freed me from a technical burden. I just had to sing being me and people received it well,” continues the artist, still on an adrenaline rush.
In no way bitter about the outcome of the show, the singer and imitator only remembers the good things about his adventure. “It’s just the start of a beautiful thing. The fact that I didn’t win doesn’t bother me. The doors will open by themselves if they have to open,” mentions philosophically the one who adds that his fans are first and foremost in Quebec.
“I want to make a living from my job!”
In a touching medley number which covered well-known tunes by Lara Fabian, Madonna and the Bee Gees, Corriveau offered a solid performance with a poignant signature of the famous hit Le Blues du Businessman.
“I was able to pass on my message: to share with people that I want to make a living from my profession as an actor and a singer!”
— David Corriveau
Note that the artist had to be convincing to include this last piece in his number since the production had initially refused.
Also a finalist in the show, the duo of Quebec dancers Marie-Josée Corriveau and Jason Morel (winners of Révolution), offered a vibrant number on Friday with domestic violence as a backdrop. Their breathtaking and committed performance moved the judges, but did not allow them to convince the French public, just like the final number of other finalists like the magician Markobi or Titos Tsaï, a saber virtuoso.
In the coming weeks, David Corriveau intends to let the dust of his adventure settle and rest a little. “I would like to eat meat pie, go skating: that kind of thing!” he says. Then, work will resume as the Mauritian prepares his first one-man show: 100 counterfeits for next fall. It will notably be presented on October 3, 2024 in Paris, before going on display on October 28 at the Cinquième Salle at Place des Arts in Montreal.
“Just that, it’s a dream come true!” It is possible to follow the route and the artist’s projects on his Facebook page.
