Codemasters has been developing the official Formula 1 game since 2009. In December, it was revealed that EA had signed a deal with Codemasters to acquire the British company. The deal is likely to be signed by the end of the first quarter.
The takeover is unlikely to affect the popular F1 game, which is often released in the summer. Due to the growing popularity of esports, the Codemasters game has also seen significant growth in recent years.
“We believe that bringing Codemasters and Electronic Arts together provides a very compelling opportunity to create amazing and innovative new racing games for fans,” said Andrew Wilson, CEO of Electronic Arts in a release.
“Our industry is growing, the racing category is growing, and together we will be positioned to lead the way in a new era of racing entertainment.”
