MEF appoints Gerardo López Gonzales as National Superintendent of Customs and Tax Administration

Gerardo López will be in charge of taking actions to expand the tax base and promote the formalization of companies.

The Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) appointed Gerardo Arturo López Gonzales as the new National Superintendent of Customs and Tax Administration (SUNAT) to replace Luis Enrique Vera Castillo.

The new superintendent of SUNAT is an economist from the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, with a Master’s degree in Public Finance and Tax Administration from the Institute of Fiscal Studies of Spain-UNED, and with postgraduate studies in tax techniques and administrative law.

Before his appointment, he had been serving as National Mayor of Process Management. With more than 15 years in the public sector, López has developed her professional work at SUNAT, and has managerial experience in taxation and management of tax administration processes at the national level.

He was also a consultant, during 2021, to the Fiscal Affairs Department at the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

López will be in charge of taking actions to expand the tax base and promote the formalization of companies. These challenges are part of the guidelines on which the Government’s economic policy will focus during 2024.

Through Supreme Resolution No. 008-2024-EF published in the Legal Standards of the Official Gazette El Peruano, it confirmed the appointment of Gerardo López and thanked Luis Enrique Vera Castillo.
