In a meeting with the community of residents of Alovė ward, the leaders of the Alytus district municipality discussed the planned works in this area, heard the needs of the residents and received thanks. The list of the most important pending works includes road and street maintenance, asphalting, design works, development of water supply and sewage networks. It is planned to install a pedestrian-bicycle path in the old town, and to renovate the pavilion of the stop in Alove. Among the priorities is the arrangement of the group spaces of the Alovė main education department, where the youngest children are educated, and the installation of a playground.
“When the weather warmed up, to be honest, I did not expect such activity in Alovė precinct. However, people put all spring work aside and spent time discussing common goals, priorities, and projects. I am glad that we found a consensus even on difficult issues, we have planned a lot of work for this year and the next. I sincerely thank the residents of the ward for their involvement, questions and suggestions, and warm reception,” said Alytus district mayor Rasa Vitkauskienė after the meeting.
The condition of the roads in the area will improve
Presenting this year’s municipal budget to the community of Alovė ward, mayor R. Vitkauskienė said that almost 8 million euros more than last year were allocated for roads – one of the most sensitive problems in the Alytus district. The mayor is convinced that everyone will feel the changes to a greater or lesser extent.
“There are about 800 kilometers of unpaved roads in the Alytus district, in the middle of this month, weather permitting, the second grading of the roads will begin, we will fix some of the gates,” said Vice Mayor Aurimas Truncė, who attended the meeting.
This year, the following road sections are planned to be asphalted: Šaukėnai–Alovė and Poteronys–Venciūnai, as well as the access road to Poteronyi from the road Antakalnis – Jieznas – Alytus – Merkinė. The gravel surface will be strengthened in individual sections: Alovės Lankų street, Takniškiai – Venciūnai road, between Lankų and Berzynėlių streets and the access road to Mančiūnai from the Antakalnis – Jieznas – Alytus – Merkinė road. In total, more than 10 kilometers of roads in Alovė ward are planned to be designed this year.
Also this year, the parking lot of the Venciūnai community, social housing, library and kindergarten and the entrance to it will be fixed.
In the next few years, it is planned to pave the roads Takniškiai-Venciūnai, Domantonys-Židonys, Alovė-Ilgai, Švobiškės-Domantonys-Lelionys, Terpinii street towards Kalesninkai, the approach road to Takniškiai from the road Antakalnis-Jieznas-Alytus-Merkinė, the access road to Alovė (Ėuolų street) from the same Antakalnis–Jieznas–Alytus–Merkinė road. Also – the road Švobiškės – Židonys – Kalesniki.
Paupio street in Alove will also be repaired. We are constantly looking for funding sources to maintain other roads in the district.
The residents of Alovė ward were not only happy that significant attention is being paid to the roads of the district, but also thanked for the high-quality cleaning of the roads during the winter, that the leaders do not shy away from talking to the residents and listening to their needs.
The focus is on the conditions of children’s education and communities
At the meeting, the mayor of Alytus district drew the residents’ attention to the need to ensure children’s safety and suitable educational conditions, so the plans already include organizing the group spaces for children in the Alovė main education department. An outdoor playground will also be installed here.
The head of the Finance and Investment Department Andrė Zenevičienė, who participated in the meeting, invited the communities to be active, prepare projects and use various sources of funding from the municipality, ministries and others. “There are a lot of financing tools, so I invite you to take advantage of every opportunity to prepare projects, provide initiatives, and the municipal specialists are always ready to help, advise and point you in the right direction,” said A. Zenevičienė.

Residents were also active in making various proposals, from setting up a recreation space in Alove to organizing dances and employment for young people. The seniūnia community expressed the need to install a pedestrian and bicycle path to the border of the city of Alytus. The leaders of the district assured the residents that such work is included in the list of works. “We really understand how important it is for suburban areas to have convenient connections with the city,” said mayor R. Vitkauskienė. It is planned to build a bicycle-pedestrian path from the White Rose Bridge towards the Nemunas Gardens.
Residents of the old town also inquired about the possibilities of connecting to the water supply and sewage networks. “The development of water management and sewage networks is planned for the entire district. Also in Alovė ward. A special water management plan is currently being prepared,” said mayor R. Vitkauskienė.
A request was also made to upgrade the infrastructure in the cemetery. “Even this year, it is planned to replace the old fence in the Kaniūki cemetery, and the old gate in the Alovė village cemetery. In a couple of years, we plan to install a parking lot and a container lot near the Kaniūki cemetery, and in the Venciūnai cemetery, we plan to replace the old fence with a new one,” district managers told the residents about the plans.
