The United States Ambassador to Madagascar, Claire A. Pierangelo remains involved in the electoral process. Yesterday, she met the former president and no less candidate of the Tiako i Madagasikara (TIM) party, Marc Ravalomanana, accompanied by his legal adviser, Hubert Raharison. Like the previous meetings, which are part of the series of consultations that the ambassador has set himself to carry out before the presidential election, the discussions between the two parties have mainly focused on the preparation of the next electoral deadline, in particular on “the importance of holding free and fair elections”.
In any case, Marc Ravalomanana is the fourth party leader whom the ambassador has met after the government council of March 11, which confirmed the holding of the first round of the presidential election for November 9 and the second round, if there will be, for this December 20. Exactly three months before the election, the diplomat has already met the two former heads of state, Hery Rajaonarimampianina on July 24 and Marc Ravalomanana yesterday. Another declared candidate who is none other than Hajo Andrianainarivelo was also received in Andranomena on July 26 before Claire Pierangelo met the number one of the Malagasy Tonga Saina party on July 1is august. In the meantime, the American diplomat will come to the CENI today to officially announce American financial support for the electoral process in order to have a free and fair election.
