Meeting UGM classmates, Jokowi alludes to fake diplomas

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) pay a visit to Yogyakarta. He took the time to meet his friends while studying at the Faculty of Forestry, Gadjah Mada University (UGM).

The meeting took place at a restaurant in the Ambarukmo area, Sleman Regency, on Sunday (10/16/2022). Jokowi arrived in the area around 09:00 WIB.

Arriving at the scene, Jokowi approached his friends and immediately greeted and chatted with ease. At the beginning of the meeting, Jokowi mentioned the issue of fake diploma.

“That’s a bogus thing about graduation, five years of school, I’m sorry. For the students, they’re still full, where elementary schools look for them,” Jokowi said, as seen on the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube, Sunday (16 / 10/1011).

“But the problem is SMA, sir,” said a friend of Jokowi’s.

“There are also thousands of high schools,” Jokowi said.

“But the problem with SMA, sir, is that there is a double stamp,” Jokowi’s friend said again.

“It’s a program, a government program, like SMPP, yes, it was like SMK before SMEA,” Jokowi said.

They then showed them pictures of their graduation from college. They remember each other.

In his statement, Jokowi explained meeting with his friends during college. However, Jokowi did not hold the meeting for long.

Jokowi explained that the friends he met during college were from different regions, from Sabang to Merauke. At the meeting, Jokowi and his friends recalled the moments during college that were captured on camera at the time.

“(I saw) the graduation photos, some were taken in mapala (nature loving students). I lost the photos myself, but apparently my friends still keep everything complete,” he added.
