Details: In his Facebook post, Szijjártó once again repeated the thesis of the Hungarian authorities about how, since 2015, Ukraine has “constantly implemented rules that increasingly limited the rights of the Hungarian national community.”
He confirmed that he spoke with Kuleba primarily about the upcoming decisions of the European Union summit on Ukraine, which, according to Budapest, “are of historical significance for the future of the entire EU.”

“The proposal for a solution is unprepared, and the European Commission has almost no idea what impact Ukraine’s membership in the EU will have on the entire association. One can at least recall the unresolved problems caused by previous decisions of the European Commission on grain transit or the abolition of permits for Ukrainian heavy trucks,” – wrote the head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry.
Among other topics of discussion was the issue of national minorities and the adoption of new legislation by Ukraine, taking into account the recommendations of the Council of Europe and the European Commission.
“Undoubtedly, we both remain committed to the further development of bilateral relations,” Szijjártó concluded.
Contacts between Kiev and Budapest intensified on the eve of the European Council meeting on December 14-15, where they are expected to consider a decision on opening accession negotiations with Ukraine and approving macro-financial assistance.
Among other things, President Vladimir Zelensky met with the Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban on Sunday at the inauguration of the President of Argentina. And last week talked to Szijjarto Head of the Presidential Office Andrey Yermak by phone.
However, after these negotiations, Orban called the Spanish Presidency of the EU Council and convinced do not bring up for discussion summit the question of opening negotiations with Ukraine.
